We'll make laws to boost culture- NASS



The National Assembly is to enact a law that will strengthen the nation’s cultural sector and make it a veritable source of revenue for the country.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Senator Hassan Barata stated this at the closing ceremony of this year’s African Arts and Crafts, AFAC EXPO held in Abuja.

Senator Barata who identified lack of effective policy as one of the challenges confronting the sector said culture could also be used to boost the nation’s economy.

Earlier, the Executive Director, National Council for Arts and Culture, NCAC, Mr. Mwajim-MalgwiMaidugu said this year’s AFAC EXPO has further enhanced Nigeria’s cultural and economic relations with other African countries.

Mr. MalgwiMaidugu stated that the council was collaborating with China on how to improve the productivity and capacity of Nigerian craftsmen and women. Sixteen states and over 200 foreign exhibitors participated in the AFAC EXPO, Certificates and awards were presented to participants.
