TAXATION: Anambra Govt shuts down Eke-Akwa market


The Anambra State government has shut down Eke-Awka market in the state capital over the refusal of traders to pay their taxes worth over ten million naira.


The Commissioner for Commerce, Mines, Agriculture and Industry, Mr. Robert Okonkwo told newsmen that the traders especially the women are taking the State government for granted.

Mr. Okonkwo maintained that government had provided social amenities to the citizens thought taxation.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of Awka South Market Amalgamated Traders Union, ASMSTU, Mr Obi Ochije has appealed to the State government to recall its decision on the closure of the market.
