Alhaji Abubakar stated this on Saturday, 8th June, 2013 at the South West Geo-political Zone Intelligence sensitization and community partnership workshop held at the Kakanfo Hotel, Ring Road, Ibadan.
The Inspector General of Police who was represented by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police South West Zone, Abul-Rahaman Akano said the workshop was aimed at bridging the gap between the Police and the public and to sensitize citizens on the need to complement the police in the enormous task of internal security management.
He stated further that the programme was designed to maximize the potential of strategic security stakeholders in the area of intelligence sourcing while also feeling the pulse of members of the public in relation to police functions at this crucial time in our nation’s evolutionary process. It is also intended to re-assure Nigerians of the commitment of the
Nigeria Police Force to serve the entire Nation meritoriously and to shift from the old order to a new security architecture that will see security management as an intertwining process involving the Police, Citizens and the government.
He stressed that “as partners in progress, the general public need to break from the age-long prejudice by showing a firm determination to defeat the criminals in our midst, who are our common enemies”.
He however, called on State Governors, State Civil Commissioners, Special Advisers, Local Government Chairmen, Traditional rulers, vigilante groups, women bodies, Religious Association, Journalists, Lawyers, Community based Associations, Youth and Students and other Strategic component of the society to stand by the Nigeria Police Force so as to rid the Nigeria Society of bad eggs and criminals.
While declaring the workshop open, the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi who was represented by his Deputy, Otunba-Moses Adeyemo described the workshop as a step towards providing lasting solution to insecurity in the country.
