Over one million jobs created in the mineral sub-sector of the economy.


The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Arc. Musa Muhammad Sada has said that over one million rural based jobs were created in the mining sector in the last two years of the nation’s administration.

He announced that two new coal development centers were developed in the country making it the largest coal mines operation in Nigeria.

While he was reviewing the mid-term report of the Jonathan-led administration, Arc. Musa said air borne survey of minerals deposits in the country was conducted leading to discovery of large deposits in various parts of the country.

Musa Sada said, a framework of action is being put in place so that the mineral sub-sector would be favorably competing with gas and oil sector of the economy.

He explained that the Ministry has facilitated the establishment of 1, 154 new quarries to make up a total number of 1,710 mines nationwide.

He maintained that the increase in the small scale quarry factory resulted in increased job creation and revenues generated in the last two years.

While speaking earlier, the Minister of Information Mr. Labaran Maku said, apart from oil, the major revenue for the country can come from mineral resources sub-sector.
