Barr. Kabiru Taminu Turaki, the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs announced this in his presentation aimed at highlighting the progress and achievements of the Ministry in line with the Transformation Agenda of President Jonathan’s Administration at the on-going Ministerial platform in Abuja.
He said, this will be through the provision of co-financing for infrastructural amenities in health care, education, water supply and provision of relief materials to displaced Nigerians in distress from natural disasters.
According to him, the National Lottery Commission has established lottery as an honest endeavor which in other climes has being deployed for good social cause.
The Minister further stated that though the Ministry is a fledging one, it has great potentials to manage issues relating to governance among the three arms and tiers of government. This, he said is to ensure that at the end of the day, not only is governance carried out according to the dictates of the constitution, but in such a way and manner that there is transparency, integrity and better service to Nigerians.
He however, added that, the Ministry is faced with the challenges of limited funding; limited coverage as operators lack the technology to cover the entire country and because of prodigious cost can only operate in little coverage areas.
The Minister also listed dishonesty, that is, revenue leakages due to lack of transparency in the operation of lottery operators as one of the challenges of his Ministry.
Mr. Labaran Maku, the Minister of Information and coordinator of the platform, in his remark, said that Nigerians should cooperate with the Jonathan’s Administration in his bid to be accountable and transparent.
