The Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) in Makurdi, through the Benue State Assistant Superintendent, Mr. P. D. Karo has advised members of the public to strive to achieve safe driving to stay alive, not otherwise.
Mr. Karo stated that the functions of the FRSC among others include collating the traffic activities in the State and regularly sensitizing the public early about safety measures at the approach of various seasons, aimed at reducing accidents to the barest minimum.
He gave this advice in his address as the co-host of the monthly meeting of the Heads of federal establishments at the Federal Secretariat, Makurdi, Benue State, recently.
Mr. Karo noted that since vehicles were manufactured by man, they were prone to mistakes, and this made it most appropriate to keep the vehicles under proper checks to avoid sudden break-down, adding that this may not only result to accident that may deform the victims for life or cause death, but consequently sap the family’s resources and happiness.
The FRSC Assistant Superintendent advised the State government to ensure that proper road signs are fixed at strategic places along the roads to give adequate warning to road users.
He equally called on road users to avoid reckless driving, answering calls while on the steering, over speeding, using second hand motor parts, drinking while driving and driving without head-lights and wipers. Other causes of accidents, he further disclosed included driving with broken screens, and driving vehicles with excessive smoke emission.
He warned that FRSC can flag-down any road traffic offender at anytime, not minding their position and added that hazard light sign must be obeyed while vehicles must be properly cleared from the roads to avoid endangering other road users.
When asked why there was delay in the issuance of licenses, Mr. Karo explained that there was blessing in every delay, and stressed that licenses were produced from Abuja and the materials were imported to avoid fakes. He further advised every family to visit FRSC office to obtain a copy of the High way codes, for careful study and practice to achieve the goal of driving to stay alive.
