IG solicits state support.

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar has stressed the need for synergy between security agencies and the public to effectively tackle criminal activities in the country.

He stated this at Kakanfo Conference Centre in Ibadan, Oyo state, at a workshop on “Enhancing National Security through Intelligence and Community Partnership” organised by the Nigeria police force, South -West zone.

The IG, represented by Deputy Inspector-General of Police, South-West, AbdulramanAkano, said the police as a body was saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property of its citizenry.
He said there was a need for stakeholders, especially Governors, Commissioners, Local Government Chairmen, Traditional Rulers, Lawyers and Other components of the society, to collaborate with the police in tackling problem of security.

In his remarks, Governor AbiolaAjimobi of Oyo State said his administration would continue to work closely with the police to achieve sustainable peace.

The Governor, who was represented by his deputy, Moses Adeyemo, said the state was in a condition of lawlessness and commended the police for their roles in tackling the problem of insecurity in the state.

In his lecture, the Chief Executive Officer, Lagos Security Trust Fund, Mr. Fola Arthur-Worrey, noted that the police had not developed internal intelligence mechanism to address security challenges.
An Activist and Human Rights Lawyer, BamideleAturu, called for legalisation of ammunition for citizens for self defence.
