NEMA To Partner Surveyors on Building Collapse

 
Worried by the incessant incidence of building collapses, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said it has acquired excavators to enable it respond more speedily in its rescue ope...rations. The Director General of NEMA Muhammad Sani Sidi disclosed this when he received a delegation from the International Federation of Surveyors that visited the Agency in Abuja also sought the assistance of the international body in reducing incessant communal conflicts arising from boundary disputes between groups of people across Nigeria.

He said the excavators would be stationed in the major cities with frequent incident of building collapses to be deployed along with the other specialize equipment such as life locator, search cameras and concrete cutters.

He requested the support of professional organizations such as that of the surveyors to adopt disaster risk reduction in their codes of practices in line with the global paradigm shift to reduce risks of disaster.

The DG said NEMA would ensure sustainable collaboration with the professionals and other stakeholders in the areas of emergency preparedness, mitigation and response.
