Driver's Licence: FRSC Introduces Online Certification.

Federal Road Safety Commission

In an effort to reduce avoidable deaths on the nation’s roads, the Federal Road Safety Commission has introduced online certification of fresh drivers’ performance for licence issuance under its Driving School Standardisation Programme (DSSP).

Speaking at a three-day workshop in Osogbo, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr. Osita Chidoka noted that the DSSP Website application would help monitor training activities in driving schools.

Chidoka, who was represented by FRSC’s Head of Section, Manpower Development, Samuel Obayemi, stressed that online operation and certification would be accessed by proprietors and instructors of certified driving schools alone.

The Corps Marshal also urged driving school operators to register their students with the commission through the website and subsequently update their activities.
He stated that the new online operation and certification was available only to proprietors and instructors of certified and registered driving schools in the country, saying that schools would be given password to access the website.

According to Obayemi, the commission had mandated all driving school operators to register their students with the commission through the website and subsequently update their activities so the commission could pen them down for Driver’s license.

He added that performance certificate would be generated and issued automatically from the commission’s website to a student once a registered student passes his or her driving tests and exams.
He said the commission through an application on the website would monitor the progress of a student from stage to stage in relation to time allocation to ascertain if he or she has passed and qualified for a driver’s licence.

He said, “Although the commission will issue a certificate to a student who passes his test from a certified driving school, but it is the final verification test and certification from the Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) that will determine if a student will be issued a driver’s licence.``
He added that the whole essence of the online exercise was to compliment the DSSP programme, which was established in 2007 and aimed at standardising driving schools in order for them to produce qualified drivers.
However, Participants, who were proprietors and operators of driving schools were drawn from Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti.
