JAMB Unveils Plan To Spread Computer-based Testing Centres Across Nigeria

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB)

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is to fast track the building of computer-based testing centres across the country as part of measures to smoothen  and erase bottlenecks in the conduct of examinations into tertiary institutions  before the end of the year.

This, according to the body, is to erase the problems of logistics, curb examination malpractices and other shortcomings associated with the previous arrangement.

One of the new centres is to be built in Otukpo, Benue State,  to complement the one already constructed in Makurdi, the state capital, to cater for the North Central zone .

Senate President Senator David Mark, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mummeh, disclosed that JAMB Registrar, Professor 'Dibu Ojerinde, had  approved the construction of the computer-based testing centre for Otukpo and its environs.

Mark was said to have disclosed this while  addressing golfers who participated in the fourth edition of Late Mrs. Odusola Ojerinde’s Memorial Golf Tournament at Otukpo Golf and Country Club.

He added that the centre, when completed, will be an edifice for information technology to ease the stress students go through taking JAMB examinations.

Commenting on the four-day golf tournament which featured professional and amateur golfers across the country, Senator Mark noted that the Otukpo Golf and Country Club has since January expended over N40 million on various golfing competitions  even as he renewed his determination to promote the game of golf.

“I have decided to develop golf in the country and it is receiving impressive attention. I want to encourage other well-meaning Nigerians to identify  and develop other sports," the Senate President said.

He commended the young golfers who took part in the just concluded international competition between the Otukpo Golf Club and Tema Golf Club of Ghana, adding that in the nearest future,  Nigeria will become a golf nation.

Mark also praised  the sponsor and husband of the late Mrs. Odusola Ojerinde Memorial Golf Tournament, Professor Dibu Ojerinde,  for his nationalistic gesture at bringing the annual memorial tournament to Benue, saying  the memory of his late wife will linger on.

In his remarks, the JAMB Registrar, Professor Ojerinde , expressed gratitude to Senator Mark for the opportunity to host the memorial tournament in Otukpo  even as he assured that there would be improvement in the consequent tournament.

Amos Korblah of Otukpo Colf club won the tournament with 286 points.
