During the presentation of the Mid-Term Achievements of the President Goodluck Jonathan Administration in the country’s education sector by the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’I and the Minister of State, Education, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Ogun and Ebonyi States were listed as non-performing States in the UBEC Matching Grant Disbursement Performance as at May 30th, 2013, having disbursed only N3, 032,297,294.62k each, between 2005 and 2013 out of the N5, 593,777,460.73 released to both States within the same period. The sum of N2, 561,480,166.11k was not accessed by each State representing only 54 percent of disbursed funds.

On the other hand, 12 states were rated Top Performing on the UBEC Matching Grant Disbursement Performance in the same period under review, having attained between 91percent and 100 percent.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Rufa’i, further puts total FG’s intervention funds to States through UBEC in the period 2010 to 2012, to be N136, 717, 547,088.

She equally disclosed that the total sum of N259,418,319,000 was disbursed and utilized under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) 2010- 2012 as follows:

In his remarks, the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku noted that President Goodluck Jonathan has made significant progress and committed extra resources to take children off the streets especially with the introduction of Almajiri Schools in northern Nigeria. He said, “The President has made tremendous efforts to take our children off the streets by building 100 schools for the Almajiris”.
He also said the present Administration has also committed more resources to step up interventions in both primary and secondary education. “Every child must be given an opportunity and that is the aim of Mr. President”, Maku stated.
