Ogun Govt To Rehabilitate Vocational Training Centres

All vocational training centres in the 20 Local Government Council Areas of Ogun State are to be resuscitated to train women and make them self-reliant.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in the State; Mrs Elizabeth Sonubi made this known in Ijebu–Igbo at a training programme organised for women in Ijebu North Local Government Area.

Mrs. Sonubi explained that the decision to resuscitate the centres was borne out of the desire of the State Government to empower as many people as possible with different skills in order to make them self-reliant so as to make meaningful contributions to the mission of rebuilding the State.

She recalled that two years ago, her Ministry resuscitated the moribund Women Development Centre in Abeokuta where about 200 young school leavers graduated having acquired various skills in hairdressing, sewing, knitting and shoe making among others.

Sonubi revealed that presently, another batch of 180 trainees are undergoing similar trainings at the Centre, submitting that training workshops had also been organised for women in the remaining 19 Local Governments to build their capacities towards making them self-reliant and employers of labour.

Disclosing that the next phase of the N200m micro-credit empowerment initiative of the State Government for women across the State would take off next October, the Commissioner enjoined those who had already benefited to ensure judicious use and prompt repayment so that others could also benefit from the gesture.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Local Government Area, Honourable Emiola Osifeso described the training programme as a welcome development capable of turning around the fortunes of participants.
