“NYSC not under any threat” – Youth Development Minister

The Minister of Youth Development, Inuwa Abdulkadir Esq. has declared that the National Youth Service Corps Scheme is not under any threat from the insecurity challenges facing the nation, but rather that it provides the justification for its continued existence.

Inuwa Abdulkadir who disclosed this while answering questions from some journalists in Abuja argued that the scheme has come out stronger than ever, even after the death of some corps members who were killed in certain parts of the country during the post-election violence in 2011.

The Minister observed that not even Boko Haram posed any serious challenge to the sustenance of the scheme, noting that from the operations of the group, their targets cut across religious and ethnic divides.  He stated that no corps member was the direct target of the group.

Inuwa Abdulkadir observed further that the insecurity problem might have had some effects on individual corps members, he was glad to note that with the present effort of the Federal Government, there should be no cause for alarm anymore.

He assured serving and prospective corps members that both Federal and State Governments had put in place adequate security measures that would guarantee the safety of lives of corps members and their properties wherever they may be serving in the country; whilst advising them to jettison any past negative mindset and see the scheme as a call to national service.
