FG expands access to education, especially for almajiris and girl child – Minister.

The development of any nation, it is said, is dependent on the access its citizens have to education and the quality of education they possess. This position was amplified by the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i  while presenting her Ministry at score card at the ongoing Ministerial Platform organized by the Federal Ministry of Information.

The Minister said, the transformation agenda of Mr. President in the Education sector is unprecedented, as the hitherto Almajiris have been taken off the streets and given unrestrained access to education in order to ensure that illiteracy level is reduced to the barest minimum.  The issue of girl’s child education has equally been given priority attention by the Federal Government; said the Minister.

The Education Minister further disclosed that, as part of Government’s effort to ensure that citizens have access to quality and functional education, 82 libraries are being built in the Unity Schools across the States of the federation.  She added that Mr. President has approved N11.6 billion for the construction of laboratories in selected Colleges of Education with a view to enhancing academic excellence.

Additionally, the Minister stressed that funding of academic activities has improved tremendously since the inception of President Jonathan’s administration.  She noted that what is happening in the education sector is not by chance, but a conscious effort by the Federal Government to improve funding to the sector.

The Minister also listed the establishment of twelve new Federal Universalities some of which have resumed academic activities in full swing and the approval for nine new private  Universities as leaving no one in doubt of the fact that the Federal Government was all out to provide efficient and qualitative education to the citizenry.
