The Benin Zonal Commander, Mr Wole Olaniran, gave the advice on Tuesday in Benin when he addressed some motorists in his office.
The zone comprises of Edo, Delta and Anambra states.
Olaniran urged on motorists to take precautionary measures against such hazards as foggy weather, flooded and slippery roads.
He stressed the need for motorists to always ensure that their vehicles were maintained with functional lighting systems, effective brakes, horn, wipers and good tyres.
He noted that mechanical failure could occur any time, and enjoined motorists to ensure that they used their wipers, headlights and kept a safe distance from vehicles in front of them.
Olaniran further said that drivers could pull off the road and park safely, leaving their parking lights on, ``if visibility is poor while driving under the rain.’’ (NAN)
