Nigerian Forces to Participate in Cameroon Independence Day

Nigerian and Cameroon,

In what appears to be a renewed warm Diplomatic relations between Nigerian and Cameroon, twelve officers and ninety-nine soldiers of the Thirteen Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Calabar, have left the country to participate in the Independent Anniversary ceremony of that neighbouring country.

The Commander of the Brigade, Brigadier-General Okwudili Azinta told newsmen before the departure of the troops at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar, that the movement followed invitation by the Government of Cameroon that Nigeria should participate in the ceremonial parade of the country’s Independence Day Celebration scheduled for Monday.

According to Brigadier-General Azinta, the Brigade would be making history as this marks the first time the Government of Cameroon was extending such invitation to Nigeria .

Diplomatic Relations between Nigeria and Cameroon turned frosty in the early eighties following the boundary dispute around Bakassi until its recent resolution.
